I am updating with no pictures....sorry! But I needed to vent and it will be too long for facebook! So today one of Ryan's friend from school his mom asked if Ryan could come over next week after school and I told her sure but we don't do play dates alone yet. I said I could have the rest of my kids go to grandma's and Ryan and I could come over. Well I guess she didn't like that because she said her daughter had to take a nap during that time and that's why she thought the boys could just play so it wont work that day. I guess she didn't want me there too. I felt so weird but seriously it is not that weird to want to do everything you can to protect your children! We did this and still do with our girls too! We decided to do this with our kids and we are not going back on it! You can't trust people these days! So then after school Hailey calls her friend and her mom wanted to talk to me. She invited Hailey to a party on a Sunday, so I kindly told her that is our church/family day and we don't do things like that on Sunday. So her mom said well that is why we are doing it later so people could go to church first, she is going to be so mad that Hailey can't make it. I did feel bad saying no but seriously she should respect that. This isn't the 1st time we have had to tell people this before either, I have had to explain my rules to a lot of people. Oh well! I just wish people didn't think I was so weird because we have these rules for our kids. I'm not going to just let my kids go to people's houses alone that I don't know very well just to not offend them and I am not going to break our Sunday rules either. Please tell me I'm not the only weird one that has rules like this?!

you are DEFINITELY not alone! my kids aren't allowed to go to anyone's house unless i know the parents VERY well. just today a neighbor just casually asked if mason (5 years old) wanted to spend the night over there with their son, who is his age, but they are BARELY friends. i was so caught off guard i couldn't even compose my usual "we don't do sleepovers" speech. instead i just said no, and now i'll have to deal with that later. i've made our no sunday activities/playdates/parties rule BROADCAST NEWS and everyone knows about it. in fact, most of our friends have started doing parties on different days just to accommodate us, which is very nice, though not necessary. it's definitely already tough, and my kids are still LITTLE! but they're my responsibility, and i'm NOT taking any chances with them! way to stick to your guns!!!
You are definitely not wrong. I hate how opinionated people are when it comes to family rules. Why do others think they know best when it comes to raising kids? Especially the parents that barely know you.
Stick to your guns!!
I think it's important to stick to your rules. They were decided upon for good reasons and those reasons are still out there. Stick to it and your kids will understand how important they are to you. and how important Sunday is to you too.
You aren't weird! We do the same thing I know my kids are younger but they don't go anywhere without me or John. We probably won't ever let them spend the night at friends' houses and people are gonna think we're weird but hey we are doing what we think is best for our kids! You and Daniel are being good examples to your kids they will be thankful for that! It's scary what kids know these days! I have a friend with teenagers and they have never spent the night at friends houses!
We can have weird rules together :)
That is totally fine. I am also really worried about that, but so far haven't had to deal with it since James is the only one in school and we've always done playdates at the park with school friends. I definitely wouldn't send my kids somewhere I don't know. And good for you on the Sunday thing. Don't let people make you feel bad for your choices!
We miss you guys! The boys still talk about Ryan a lot...he was pretty much their favorite friend ever. You should come on a cruise again and stop by. =]
